I haven't even transferred the layout I've drawn in Flash
to HTML, and I'm already drawing more mock-ups! The forum's all figured out
now, so it's all downhill from here. :) I'll consider creating Ultraviolet with
ZZT's spiritual successor, Megazeux, which seems to have much more
possibilities as far as creating a truly unique experience with a minimalistic
approach goes. Of course, I don't know the full scope of Megazeux, so I might
stick with ZZT if it is too complicated for my liking. Not much else is
happening, be it here or at home, aside from the residents at the insane asylum
we like to call [REDACTED].
2008-10-07
I downloaded
Megazeux last night as well as a few game worlds for it. My first thought was
that the capabilities of the engine were completely awesome, while my second
thought was, That's not simple!
Needless to say, I'll be sticking
with ZZT or PLASTIC for text-mode(ish) game development, but Megazeux does look
quite interesting. I'm currently contemplating creating a game for my mother's
birthday; the Quest for Cake. This is a horrible idea that will be banished to
the deepest pits of forgotten ideas as soon as possible, although I do like the
poem preface I wrote for it.
2008-10-08
After wasting much time on
tvtropes.org, I watched the Volkswagen Un-Pimp My Ride commercials on Youtube.
UltraJMan finished The Demon Rush live over ustream, and found the ending to be
so epic (and epically horrible) that he plans to beat the game again just to
capture video of it. I've begun to list old miscellaneous ideas and shout-outs
I planned to have in older game ideas, such as the Lazer Guided Tacos stand, a
Giant Mecha Diddgery, Mooseka's Pizza Palace, and Thermonucleoxide. The purpose
of this is a resurgence of old ideas from failed games and finding new ways to
apply them in current and future games. I might tinker around with Megazeux to
see if I'm able to produce anything worthwhile with it. Judging from some of
the engine examples in the Megazeux Encyclopedia, it might be possible to
create a fun adventure game. New idea: see how many games I'm able to create
and make interesting which don't have any dialogue whatsoever. (I've only ever
come up with one.)
2008-10-09
I've decided to attempt a failed idea
again, but this time I'll have the story start from a hotel room rather than a
treehouse in the forest. My first attempt at this, which I titled CaCO3
(Calcium Carbonate), was a five-chapter epic wherein your character is tasked
with avenging a town's total destruction. This wasn't inspired by anything (or
so I hope) so it should be viable. On the other hand, it might be a bad
thing that it wasn't inspired since I still plan to create Overkill, which was
and still is inspired by Bonesaw. Then again, it appears to be the sole
exception to the inspiration rule.
2008-10-10
For some unknown
reason, I find myself spending more and more time watching stupid junk on
Youtube rather than develop my ideas. I'll see if I can think of any good ideas
for whatever I'll call the CaCO3 revival, Ultraviolet, and that one game about
the cake. Yet we all know what happens every time I say that. I might as well
have said that I'll work on my website. When did the world become so full of
lies and deceit?

Given how
fast last evening went by, the speed of time must be gradually increasing.
Danny's finally out of our hair and into rehab, which can hopefully turn him
back toward a path that doesn't suck. His drug abuse during years past
accelerated physical development, but slowed down mental development, and as a
result, he has the body of an eighteen-year-old but the mind of a
twelve-year-old (at least according to my aunt. I never spent much time getting
to know him. After revising the Overkill bosses list, I began to ponder what
hidden bosses I could add to the game and how beating them would affect the
player's experience. I'd best stop myself from doing this while this project is
still alive.
2008-10-15
I think I've finally figured it out. I
never work on stuff at home because it's better to have a copy I can make
changes to during school. At the same time, I never work on stuff at school
because it's more convenient to type it. I've been suffering from that
condition known as END IT ALREADY GAAAAH
recently during 7th
period. However, this is pointless, as my bus doesn't get here until 4:00. I
can see why they call it senioritis; I'm beginning to get to that phase where
I'm questioning the length of time I've spent in school learning stuff I'll
never use and looking upon it with disbelief.

Time is
playing mind games with me. I've thought about the story of Ultraviolet a bit,
but not too much. Speaking of not thinking too much, I saw a hilarious
satirical interview last night where the man playing the speculator said that
the practice of selling dodgy loans like money-hungry idiots didn't cause the
crisis, but it's rather that someone “asked how much these houses were really
worth in the first place.” and that the mistake was “making the banking sector
look as stupid as it actually was.” Why is my third sentence
always ridiculously huge even though I know I'm trying to keep everything on
one page? Well, whatever. It's not like you're able to find the time to read
the daily mind spewings of all your 100-something students anyway.
2008-10-17
As if I needed to supply further proof that I'm going insane,
I've drawn a cupcake, floppy disk, and submarine sandwich with 20s-style
cartoon eyes and expressions. After naming each and calling the group The
Warriors of Infinity, I promptly questioned what corner of my brain they
hatched from. I also worked on revising the Overkill list of bosses, but Jacob
says we have enough. I agree with him in that the game will be extensive enough
even without them. Burger Madness Month is now in full force; in addition to
hamburgers being today's lunch, I smelled a barbecue on the way here, have
Lunchables Mini Burgers with me, and there are Turkey Burgers waiting at home
2008-10-21
I can't believe I stared
at a blank piece of paper during the whole of third period. The cycle of
inspiration has struck yet again; I spent the weekend playing Paper Mario, and
now I want to make an RPG. However, going through the hassle of creating yet
another game storyline that won't see the light of day would be boring. I might
attempt a challenge of Paper Mario wherein I play the game without utilizing
badges or upgrades of any sort. It might not be possible to beat the final boss
this way.
2008-10-22
I sometimes wonder what kind of dreams I
would have if I dreamt more often. I found a video plugin on the ALMIGHTY
INTERNETS that is able to handle proper rendering of Paper Mario without
the crazy flickering effect I get when using other plugins. Went to Wal-Mart,
millions of people there, spent some cash, more of the same. One thing I found
interesting on the way back is that gas prices are dropping below the $3 range.
Another thing I found interesting were my aunt's stories of how incredulously
lazy and unhelpful the homeless people living at the mission are.
2008-10-23
I'll attempt some work on Ultraviolet as soon as I have a
more concise and written down storyline. Although, considering I'm making it in
ZZT, that isn't exactly a requirement. Still, good writing will help just about
anything that doesn't happen in real life. I also have to decide whether or not
to use a password system if it ends up being too large for one file.
Considering how in-depth I plan to make the abandoned house/graveyard segment,
this could very much be a possibility. Off the top of my head, I could either
use an object-based or a flag-based manual entry system. Flag-based manual
entry would be easier for me to program, but object-based entry would be much
less troublesome for the user.

While failing at drawing
Nightmare Fuel this morning, I hatched yet another character from the egg of
insanity. She's a blade wielding, demon-eyed menace whom I've named Misprint.
This reminds me of when I had this ridiculous plot for a flash movie named Los
Crónicos de Vicente. It might have something to do with drawing all the
characters for that idea in a similar manner. This week was weird, but we're at
the point where everything is sinking (quite rapidly) into monotony. Mindless
drone #30800 out.

I
excelled at Paper Mario over the weekend. I had an idea this morning to create
a PHP-based Flash blog system. This system, if it worked, would be a great
exercise in utilizing arrays in a flat-file database. I also created a quick
30-second logo that resembles both a cupcake and an uppercase E. This could be
the new LollerCupcake Industries logo, but I might stick with the simplified
LAWL MOBILE logo for that.
2008-10-28
I squandered most of last
night lounging around them YouTubes. It started with a wacky Lets Play of some
crazy game called Revenge of the Sunfish. Revenge of the Sunfish is one of
those types of games where you take one look at it and immediately ask what the
author was smoking during its production. From there, it transitioned to PeTA
infringing upon Nintendo's copyrights by producing a terrible knockoff of Super
Mario Bros., protesting in the streets, and being protested against in those
same streets. What a wild and sad world we live in. Perhaps one day I'll start
the American Intelligence Conservation Corps, a group which will protest things
by holding up signs that simply read "I'm with stupid." above an arrow.

Friday promises to be interesting. Especially if it's
anything like last year, what with the double-digit fights that broke out. I
created an ARG-looking document called THESIS yesterday for no reason, and
showed it to other people. Nobody could deduce anything from it, even though it
said such things as "mailer daemon returned call", "waste of toner", and
"paranoia".
2008-10-30
"Drug-free week" is now officially on drugs,
so declare Jacob and I. Following more pondering of the state of the games
industry, I drew Misprint yet again. When will I ever design a new layout for
Impure Creation? Hell, when will I implement ImpuRadio? With any luck, I'll
become more productive after graduation and driver's license obtaining and
whatever other junkerooni my dad has lined up for me.
